Relief from leg pain with laser and avulsion treatments
A two-step approach improves pain and cosmetic appearance
A 32-year-old woman experienced pain while on her feet for long periods. After receiving endovenous laser therapy and avulsions, she saw significant pain relief and cosmetic improvement. The treatments were all done in Dr Altaf’s practice.
Symptoms
Pain when standing or walking for long periods, discomfort caused by varicose veins.
Motivation for treatment
The patient needed relief from pain to continue her work, as well as to address the cosmetic appearance of her legs.
How laser and avulsion treatments worked together
This 32-year-old woman experienced constant leg pain when on her feet for extended periods, which affected her ability to work comfortably. After consulting with Dr Altaf, she underwent two treatments: endovenous laser therapy and avulsions, both performed in the clinic without the need for a hospital visit.
The endovenous laser therapy was used to close the great saphenous vein (GSV). The GSV is part of the superficial venous system, not the deep system, which means it is closer to the skin and more likely to cause issues like varicose veins. Closing this vein helped relieve pain and improve blood flow.
One month later, the patient had a procedure called avulsions, which involves making small cuts in the skin to remove parts of the problematic vein. This simple procedure helps with both pain relief and the cosmetic appearance of the legs.
It’s normal to have more than one treatment to fully address the issues. At Dr Altaf’s practice, patients receive 12 months of care after their initial treatment. The follow-up process ensures the best outcomes, with appointments every three months to monitor progress and decide if further treatments are necessary.
